Spring Snaps Photographic Competition
CAIRN ran a photographic competition, Spring Snaps, across the four Thomas’s London Day Schools during April - May 2009. The aim of the competition was to encourage children to get involved in photography and to enjoy taking photographs. The guideline was to ‘snap away during the Spring break’, and was intentionally kept broad in order to encourage as many pupils to take part as possible.
The response was phenomenal and the quality of photography was even more staggering (click here to view the entries). There are definitely some potential David Bailey’s in the Thomas’s school community!
Schools chose a number of ways of exhibiting their entries ranging from fantastic displays around school to photographic exhibitions at Kensington and Fulham (see images below). Our professional photographers, Mike Baker and Nick Harvey, who donated their time and experience had the extremely difficult job of judging the entries.
We were fortunate to gain the support of Snappy Snaps, Putney (www.snappysnaps-putney.co.uk), who generously printed the images at a discounted rate.
Thank you to all the children who took part and also to our volunteers who helped to organise the Competitions in each school.
We look forward to running the competition again during 2010. If your school would like to take part in the forthcoming Spring Snaps competition, please email us at info@cairntrust.org with your details.
