Virgin London Marathon Runner

Jeff Hawkins

JeffJeff Hawkins, sports teacher at Thomas’s Battersea is going to run the forthcoming Virgin London Marathon for The CAIRN Trust.

Jeff is not new to the world of Marathons, with next year’s London Marathon being his ninth marathon! Previous marathon runs include eight successful London Marathons and the very recent Dublin Marathon. In September ‘08 and ’09, he also completed two Half-Ironmen Triathlons.

Looking forward to the race, Jeff said, “I shall be looking to get under 4 hours, training and injurypermitting.”

Training Plan

The majority of his training comes from his daily cycle ride toand from work from Walton on Thames. Inaddition to this, Jeff runs 4 times per week; twice at the Thomas's Running Club, once on a Sunday eveningafter his 11 month daughter Daisy has gone to bed (10 miles) and once home from school (14 miles).

“Daisy dictates my training schedule as I like to spend as much time as possible with her and my wife Ann. Therefore it is a constant juggling act.”

MarathonJeff managed to complete the Dublin Marathon in the respectable time of 3hours and 52 minutes despite his recent health and injury woes of a semi-prolapsed disc and Morton's Neuroma.

Jeff is well aware that “Training is obviously the key!”

The training for the Marathon will also help him in his training to complete his first Ironman in Bolton next summer.

Why CAIRN?

I chose to run for CAIRN this year because it is such a good cause and you can really see where your money is going. I look forward to running for CAIRN!
