What We Do
The CAIRN Trust is a UK registered children's charity dedicated to improving educational opportunities for some of the poorest children in rural Nepal. Our efforts are focussed on helping rural communities, where over 84% of the Nepalese population live (23 million people).
Our Mission
To develop sustainable rural village communities through child education.
Our Goal
To educate 14,000 children in rural Nepal by 2014.
Core Projects
The CAIRN Trust develops educational infrastructures in rural communities through three core projects:
CAIRN Schools & Libraries:
We construct & equip schools, libraries
and nursery schools in partnership with
rural communities.
CAIRN Educational Awards:
We provide some of the poorest children with the essential educational support and materials (including uniforms, stationery and books) so that they attend school regularly.
CAIRN Communities:
We identify and support children within our educational communities who require additional assistance to continue with their education through a number of smaller projects e.g. income generation programmes and medical funds.
Brief History of The CAIRN Trust
The CAIRN Trust was launched by the four Principals of Thomas's London Day Schools in July 2007.
The Thomas's family connections with Nepal go back some 40 years to the time when David Thomas was an officer in the 2nd Gurkhas.
It was through contact with the villages and families of these cheerful, strong and resilient and yet incredibly poor people that made David and Joanna determined to help.
